Where to hang living room artwork

Artworks in three important locations can be hung in your living room. Most of the time, the space on the sofa is in great need of art. If you have a mantelpiece, that is the main space for hanging or leaning abstract art artwork. The blank space on the wall that a flank window is also an ideal place for color and visual interest.

Above the sofa
There may already be artwork above your sofa, and it may be too small for space. Whether you use a single artwork or a group of artworks, there are some rules of thumb:

If you want to hang a piece of large wall art, make sure the measures of the artwork is about two-thirds of the width of the sofa (arm-to-arm).

If you want to hang the grouping, please use the same general proportions to ensure that the size of the arrangement is about two-thirds of the width of the sofa.

When hanging groups, make sure that each frame is about 2 inches or 3 inches.

Make sure there is a consistent space of 6 inches to 8 inches between the bottom of the frame and the top of the sofa back.

Over a Mantel
Due to the height, placing canvas wall art on mantels can be tricky. There should be approximately 4 to 12 inches of space between the bottom of the artwork and the top of the mantel. To create a casual look in the living room, lean tall artworks against the wall on top of your mantel.

Flanking a Window
If you have a window framed with drapes in your living room, check to see if you need artwork. drapes may spill over into the wall space, and adding any large wall decor ideas for living room may make the room feel crowded. Ideally, there are about 4 inches to 6 inches from the edge of the artwork to the overhanging edge to make the layout look proportional.
